BECAUSE OF PERSISTENCE HE WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU NEED
Prayer is a way of communicating with God. For one to have a good relationship with someone one must know how to
communicate with the person. For us to have a good relationship with God we must know how to communicate with God. In prayer we humble ourselves before God, acknowledging his power over all things, and his ability to provide for us. Abraham teaches us how humble our prayer should be before God. Abraham humbly prayed and interceded for the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah against the evil that was about to happen to them. Although Abraham did not live in any of these cities he did not rejoice on the evil that was about to happen to them. Abraham did not rejoice on their misfortune. Abraham teaches us that we should not rejoice on other people’s misfortune, rather we should pray and intercede for them. Abraham was a righteous man. He was close to God and he used the privilege of his closeness to God to plead for the safety of life of the people. God listened to Abraham because of his humility in prayer. If there were few good people in those cities God would have speared their life because of Abraham’s prayer. We are called as Christians to do our very best to save people’s life just like Abraham. The Bible tells us that God listens to the prayers of righteous people. We ask the saints to intercede for us because they lived good live and we believe that they are with God. We ask for the intercession of priests, and religious men and women because they like Abraham are close to God. Christ calls us to pray constantly and persistently. Prayer is a way of life. It is a way of spending a quality time with God. We share our feelings, our joy and our challenges with God in prayer. In Prayer we receive grace and consolation. Our going to mass and our daily prayer are not in vain even when we think our prayers are not answered. God answered Abraham’s prayer in his own way, God also answers our prayer in his own way. Jesus teaches that God knows how to give us the best. Jesus was a person of prayer. From the beginning of his ministry to the end of his ministry he never stopped praying. Every morning before dawn Jesus goes to a lonely place to pray. It was after one of his daily prayer that his disciples asked him to teach them how to pray. His disciples needed to understand the best way to communicate with God. Jesus taught them the best way to communicate with God by teaching them the Lord’s Prayer. The Lord’s Prayer contains all we can ask for in pray. The Lord’s Prayer is not only a prayer but also a way of life. Jesus taught them that God should be addressed as, “Our Father” not Father of one person but the Father of us all, making us all brothers and sisters. The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer of praise,
acknowledging God’s power and Glory, “Hallowed be your name.” Praying for his kingdom of peace and joy to come upon us and dispel the darkness of violence and evil. It is a prayer of petition, asking God for our daily need, for our health and wellbeing. It is a prayer of forgiveness and mercy, asking God for pardon for our mistakes. Here we acknowledge that we are sinners that depends on God’s mercy. At this point we tell God that we are ready to forgive those who did us wrong. It is a prayer for grace and strength not to fall into mistakes that will separate us from God. It is a prayer of deliverance and protection from evil. Jesus teaches us not to give up praying. God will open the door because of your persistence. We are invited to pray not only for ourselves but for others, for our family and friends, for the sick and the dying, for peace in our society and for peace in the world.
